I have tried everything from curling irons, french braids, hair spray, and it works but it only stays in for about 1 hour. I want a technique where I can have waves for the whole day.
Thanks! How do you make naturally straight hair wavy for a long time?
I don't know if you've heard this before, but I read this in a magazine once and it worked really well on my sisters hair; braid your hair into four braids, one for each section of your head. Then go over the braids with a flat iron while they are still tied. After about two or three runs over each braid, untie them, and you should have perfectly wavy hair! How do you make naturally straight hair wavy for a long time?
Using curling irons -- you're most likely not leaving the curling iron in your hair for a long enough time, if you are, it may be on low heat. Make sure the heat is right and leave it in for a bit more.
Or, you can use rollers! I, personally, like electronic rollers better, they're easier to work with than curling irons and you can buy them in a lot of places too -- like Walmart!
Rollers are easier to work with because you just simply heat up the rollers and once it's done, roll up your hair and walk around and leave them in your hair for a bit, no need to hold anything in your hair for a long time.
But anyways, most likely, your heat is too low or you're not leaving your hair in for long enough. It's happened to me and when I left my rollers in for a longer amount of time, it stayed curly (of course it lost a BIT of curliness but not a lot).
Well what I do is wet my hair put like 4-6 braids in my hair before I go to bed, sleep in them- even if they get messed up- and in the morning take them out, it usually stays in for 1 or 2 days.
DON'T COMB IT OUT, DONT WASH IT OUT! Just fluff it up a little w/your fingers after you take the braids out and maybe put a little hairspray in it.
A wavy perm would be the best solution. Get it done at a high-quality salon. You don't want to be on here next week wanting to know what to do about your burnt hair.
If you don't want to go that route, you could work some mousse into your damp hair, braid or set it on large rollers, and leave it all night. Rag or sponge rollers are easiest to sleep with. In the morning, gently remove, and finger-comb into place. Set with hair spray.
I have never had a problem with this method.

:)
i did this a few months back with my sisters hair, because when i curl it, it just wont curl, the curl falls after a few minutes no matter how much mousse, hairspray, or gel i put in, and i tried this on her and it worked and stayed for the whole day
use wax before curling it,
