How to curl straight hair and keep it in?

I refuse to do the hairspray and then curl method. The hairspray makes the hair stiff and can break hair off if the iron stays on too long. My hair stylist used a product that was called curled up or something. I can't find it anywhere and can't ask her. Does anyone know of a curling spray that will help straight hair curl more easily? How to curl straight hair and keep it in?
No, but I have another method that does not involve hairspray

get the curlers that stay in for like 6 hours or so, and you dont need any hairspray, becasue i do it all the time, and i dont use hairspray, and it stays in for like 12 hoursHow to curl straight hair and keep it in?

It depends on the overal ';curl'; look you are going for. For the big soft ';beachy'; look, after you wash your hair use a root lift-volumizer in a mousse form- these aren't usually sticky if used correctly. Only use the smallest amount on the root area, especiall the top or the areas that the curls fall out first from your hair. Tip your head upside down and blowdry until yourhair is completely dry, use your curling iron to curl your hair in sections, after each curl is done, pin it with a hair pin-the two pronge ones at beauty suppliers are the best for this, when your done hit your hair with the cold shot on your hair dryer. read a magazine or do your make-up, let this set for 20 minutes, spray you hair with a very light hairspray when your done,, but only once if you really want to- if not take all the pins out and let the curls drop and set how the would without brushing them. if you are going for a more defined look use gel instead of volumiser and set your hair with rollers when wet for whort curly style luck!
If you like curls most of the time....I'd get a ';wave perm.'; It's a light perm that can easily adapt to all hairstyles.

You can curl it easier...and doooo they stay! Or, you can blow dry for straight hair!

.
Layer it
Use a curling or volumizing mousse in your hair before you start curling it. Then after you curl it gently spary a little bit of hairspray on it.
I would use frize ez seirum by john freeda i think thats thats what its called. It makes your hair look soft and keeps things in place. You can buy it at most drugstores it about $10. Don't use to much or it makes your hair look greasy
hairspray is your best bet. if the hair is breaking off then its because the hair is thick with hairspray it should only be a light mist across the section of hair. concentrating on the roots.

if u stay in the states im not sure if you can get these products, juuce, its a great range of styling products.

ask your hairdresser where she gets her supplies from?
