How can I get my straight hair to hold curl?

I have straight, stubborn, hair that will not hold curls. When I curl using heat it curls okay, but by the time I finish, the side I started on is straight or the curls that are left look stringy.

I use hairspray, but all that acheives is to make my hair look nasty. How can I get my straight hair to hold curl?
well use Anee LeBoe maxi holder it has complete shine and its only 10 $ or use curl holder depthHow can I get my straight hair to hold curl?
rub a dime sized blob of hairgel down the piece of hair you are about to curl before curling it! that will hold it in and make it shine!
